More than 7,000 Proof of Claim filing packets are being mailed the week of January 28th to all identified potential Merced claimants. While most individuals who had an open claim, and all Campfire claimants, do not have to file a formal Proof of Claim to obtain coverage through the California Insurance Guarantee Association, it is recommended that they do so as a protective measure. If you believe that you have a potential claim against the Merced Property & Casualty Co. and have not received a Proof of Claim mailing package by February 25th, please notify us at (415) 676-5016 or email MercedPOC@caclo.org. The bar date, the last date on which a claim may be filed, is June 30th. A sample of the Proof of Claim package is available at the www.caclo.org website, but we ask that you not use the sample form as the mailed package will have a form with a unique claim number specific to your claim.

Unearned premium as a result of policy cancellation: What is presently happening is that Merced has cancelled all policies at a date no later than January 2nd, is in the process of computing the amount of return premium due, and has been submitting the calculated amount to the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA) for actual payment. CIGA has projected that all return premium payments can be made by sometime in February, but it is a significant undertaking and we are hopeful that the timeline is accurate.
At any rate you need file nothing for the return premium payment to be automatically processed and sent to you.
