Western Growers Insurance Company was domiciled in California and was licensed to write worker's compensation class of insurance in California and Arizona. By orders of the Orange County Superior Court, WGIC was placed into liquidation on January 17, 2003. Western Growers Association, the owner of Western Growers Insurance Company did not object to the liquidation. They continue to provide services to its members and the liquidation has no bearing on the activities of the Association.
In 2004 the Commissioner obtained a court order to forego the full Proof of Claim process saving the estate significant cost, yet still protecting all the recovery rights and value to the two participating Guaranty Associations.
The Western Growers estate completed its final distribution in December 2008. On February 11, 2009, the California Insurance Commissioner was discharged as Liquidator concurrent with the filing of the Declaration of Compliance.
