February 7, 2003 - The Conservation & Liquidation Office (CLO) mailed claim payments on behalf of the California Insurance Guaranty Association (CIGA).
In order to minimize the impact to claimants during the transition of claims files from Western Growers to Intercare, payments have been made in advance of the regularly scheduled period.

LETTER TO APPLICANT REGARDING :
WESTERN GROWERS INSURANCE COMPANY,
IN LIQUIDATION
On January 17, 2003, the Superior Court of the County of Orange entered an Order appointing the California Insurance Commissioner ( Commissioner ) as Liquidator of Western Growers Insurance Company (herein referred to as WGIC or the Company in Liquidation ), and authorizing the Commissioner, as Liquidator, to wind up the business and affairs of WGIC as provided for in Section 1016 of the California Insurance Code. (See, Insurance Commissioner of the State of California v. Western Growers Insurance Company, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Orange, Case No. 03CC01758.)
Your California Workers Compensation Claim will no longer be handled by Western Growers Insurance Company.
APPLICABILITY OF THE
CALIFORNIA INSURANCE GUARANTEE FUND
PLEASE NOTE that the Company in Liquidation was licensed by the State of California and was an admitted insurer; therefore, it participated in the California Insurance Guarantee Association ( CIGA ). CIGA provides payment for certain types of claims made against certain types of insurance policies. The types of claims and policies for which payment may be made, the extent of the payment, and the persons to whom payment may be made, are specified in Sections 1063, et seq., of the California Insurance Code. Furthermore, an insurance guarantee association in another state, depending on the state in which the insured or claimant resides, the nature of the claim, the type of policy, and other factors might cover claims that might not be covered by CIGA.
If you have a claim that you believe is covered by CIGA, you should contact CIGA s, designated representative INTERCARE. INTERCARE is CIGA s claims administrator for California Workers Compensation Claims relating to WGIC.
